Erickson Named President of National NeighborWorks Association Board

Marcia Erickson, GROW South Dakota CEO, recently became President of the Board of Directors for the National NeighborWorks Association (NNA). She will serve a two-year term. NNA is a national membership-based trade association for NeighborWorks America chartered organizations that are providing over $9.3 billion of affordable housing and community development across the nation. NNA provides national advocacy for policy and funding for these organizations as well as membership benefits that either reduce operating costs or increase revenues.

Marcia has been with GROW South Dakota for more than 30 years and became the CEO in 2005. Marcia has a broad range of experience in mobilizing and administering resources from private, state, and government funding sources. GROW South Dakota has three non-profits under its umbrella that provide housing, community and economic development activities in the State of South Dakota. She is a graduate of Achieving Excellence in Community Development from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. She also holds a Master Degree in Community Economic Development. Marcia’s areas of expertise include: organizational management, fund raising, low-income programming, revolving loan funds, economic development, housing, and project management. 

NNA champions affordable housing and community development programs that strengthen and revitalize our nation's communities. NNA is also committed to ensuring that federal legislation and policies promote housing and community development programs that are undertaken by local, non-profit community organizations. NNA advocates for appropriations funding that allows members, and the affordable housing industry, to address the needs for affordable housing, correct the inequities in homeownership and promote comprehensive community development.

A Half-Century of Serving South Dakotans

For more than half a century, the three nonprofit organizations comprising GROW South Dakota have fulfilled a vision of “GROWing sustainable communities through housing, community and economic development.” In 1966 the Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program (NESDCAP) was established as a Community Action Agency in the War on Poverty and has served thousands in 17 counties with emergency services as well as various housing programs.
